Zamfara killing: Minister gives acting IGP directive

The acting inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris has been given a directive to ensure that the killers of eight people in Zamfara state on Wednesday, August 24, are brought to justice– The minister of interior Abdulrahman Dambazau gave the directive to the acting IGP– The minister said prosecuting the perpetrators will mean justice for the victimsNigeria’s minister of interior, Abdulrahman DambazauThe acting inspector general of police has been directed to bring the perpetrators of the killings that occurred in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic Talata Mafara in Zamfara state.The minister of interior Abdulrahman Dambazau, in a statement by his spokesperson Osaigbovo Ehisienmen directed the leadership of the Nigeria police force to ensure that the killers are brought to justice.Dambazau said prosecuting the killers will mean justice for the victims.The minister who referred to the killing as barbaric, uncivilized and highly reprehensible, further tasked the police to reactivate its campus intelligence network to ensure this kind of incidence does not reoccur.“He therefore admonished Nigerian youth to avoid taking the laws into their hands, and to adhere to lay down procedures in settling their differences, as enshrined in the social contract which shift the burden of redress to constituted government authorities,”Ehisienmen said.READ ALSO:Emergency meeting summoned over Zamfara,Kaduna killingsOn Wednesday, August 24, eight people were killed in polytechnic in Zamfara after a young man was accused of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.Also, the governor of Zamfara state Abdulaziz Yariafter meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari promised thatkillers of the individuals must be brought to justice.However, denying the reports that blasphemy against the prophet led to the killing, Yari said incident after a fight ensued between two students in the institution.Yari said:“Intelligence reports from the security agencies indicated that there was a fight between two students, during which one said the other abused Prophet Muhammed.”The governor added that students beat up the boy, said to be Yoruba and from Kogi state – whose religion is still in contention.READ ALSO: After religious killing, President Buhari meets with governors (photos)He said students thought the boy was dead after he collapsed due to the beating.“Then security personnel requested help from a shop owner who took him to the hospital in his car. “When the students heard that the victim was still alive, they went to the hospital, but soldiers intervened. I don’t know if he is alive or dead.“Then the students returned to the polytechnic and burnt the shop of the man who helped the victim. Unfortunately, the police in the division didn’t have enough men to contain the riot.“Before reinforcement came, the crowd also burned down the man’s house. Everyone in the house was killed, all of them Muslims, despite the rumour in the social media that Christians were being killed in Zamfara.“In fact, the mob wanted to go and burn churches and attack non-Muslims, but the security forces stopped them.It is my home town, where I also live,”the governor said.
