BREAKING: EFCC arrest ex-governor of Imo state

The EFCC has rearrested former governor of Imo state, Governor Achike Udenwa– Achike Udenwa’s was arrested over some alleged campaign scandal– The former governor of Imo state is said to have collected N3.5million fromNenadi UsmanFormer Imo state governor, Achike Udenwa has been rearrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, August 17.The ex-governor has been arrested in connection with an alleged campaign scandal committed during the 2015 presidential election.Mr Udenwa, as a state coordinator for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign organization in Imo state, was said to have collected the sum of N3.5m from the former senator representing Kaduna South and director of finance for the PDP presidential campaign organization, Nenadi Usman.READ ALSO:Buhari gets another warning from major group over state of the nationThe suspect, in his statement to the commission, admitted receiving the money via a new generation Nigerian bank on January 14 and 28, 2015, respectively.Sahara reporters report that the money was collected in three separate installments. He added that the money came from a company named Joint Trust Dimension Limited.This same company was charged alongside Mrs Nenadi Usman and the media director of the PDP presidential campaign organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, before a Federal High Court in Lagos on a similar allegation.An investigation, however, revealed that Achike Udenwa and Viola Onwuliri, a former minister of foreign affairs and state minister for education, who was his deputy at the presidential campaign organization, were the two signatories to the bank account that received the money.Upon his arrest, Udenwa was immediately granted administrative bail by the commission on the condition that he reports himself to the commission at anappointed time.But while enjoying his administrative bail, Udenwa chose to deliberately skip reporting, thereby compelling the EFCC to revoke his administrative bail pending his arraignment soon.Meanwhile, Senator Nenadi Usman has been quizzed by the EFCC for her alleged role in the N23bn ($115m) allegedly shared by ex-minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.READ ALSO:How civil servant died in EFCC’s custody (PHOTO)The commission is said to have traced the payment of N1.85bn to two formergovernors and three senators from the Diezani funds including Usman who was director of finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Organisation.According to the EFCC, Usman was quizzed at the Gombe zonal office on August 1, 2016, over the billions of naira that was shared in all the states across the North-East through her for the re-election of former President Jonathan.Usman was quoted as telling the EFCC during interrogation thatshe met Diezani shortly before the election and the ex-minister gave her a paper containing a specific amount of money to be given to each states of the federationand directed her as the director of finance to contact and send all the representatives of every state to go to a certain new generation bank and collect the campaign slush funds so as to deliver victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country.
